Civics 9 - Mr. Wicktor
Course Description: One of the goals of 9th grade civics / career exploration is to present basic information young citizens need for an understanding of their government and country, how it operates, and their relationship to it. Another goal is to have students explore what types of careers there are and the training that is needed for the different fields. Finally, students will understand personal finance and money management.
Subject Area:
*The Constitution and Bill of Rights: Students will understand how the American government was set up into the different branches and division of power.
* Political parties and Voting: The students will learn what the differences are between liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans. They will become very familiar with the ideology of both as well as become very knowledgeable about current political issues. Finally they will understand the voting process.
* The three branches of government: The students will extensively know about the Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, and Judicial Branch.
* Criminal and Civil Law: Students will become familiar with the federal court system, arrest process, and prison system.
* Career Exploration: Students will have the opportunity to explore different education, training, and jobs that are out there for them to form a career in after school.
* Practical money management: In this unit students will become knowledgeable in micro and micro economics.
